As part of UNAM's internationalization strategy, representative offices have been established to promote and consolidate UNAM's international prestige. They are responsible for linking UNAM's entities and agencies, with IES in the countries where they are located as well as with countries in their area of influence.
We are the office in Germany, (UNAM Germany headquarters) that was gestated during 2017 and began its functions in February 2018 as a guest institution of the Free University of Berlin inside the International House. Its mission and vision is shared by the eleven offices located in eight countries around the world.
To promote mobility, networking, cooperation and inter and intra-institutional collaboration from an academic and intellectual development approach; to promote language teaching and Spanish certifications; to disseminate Mexican culture and local cultures, for the benefit of both the university community and the Mexican community abroad; and to enhance the presence of UNAM abroad.
To be the representation of excellence of UNAM that contributes to the international positioning in its geographical area of influence by promoting academic, scientific and cultural activities.
The general objective of the UNAM Germany Office is to be the institutional link between UNAM's entities and agencies and key partners (higher education institutions, agencies and research centers) to facilitate long-term institutional-academic cooperation.
In addition, cross-cutting objectives were established that will enable the headquarters' outreach efforts to result in synergy in international cooperation:
Since its origins in 1921, the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) has recognized the importance of international academic links with other higher education institutions, international organizations and governments. Throughout a century, UNAM has undergone a process of internationalization that has allowed its positioning in the international arena, while performing substantive functions of national articulation of higher education institutions and contributing to the global society.
In 2015, the most recent stage of articulation and prioritization of institutional objectives in international matters began. Through the creation of the Coordination of International Relations and Affairs
(CRAI).
The Coordination of International Relations and Affairs is the office in charge of consolidating UNAM's presence abroad, through the development of cooperation strategies with higher education institutions, organizations and governments. This office has focused on strengthening the international development of the university through the creation of internationalization policies that streamline and facilitate the processes of research, education and academic and cultural collaboration in the international arena. With the inauguration of this coordination of internationalization, the Secretariat for Institutional Development (SDI) strengthened its tasks related to academic innovation and the strengthening of research inside and outside UNAM.
